Purpose

This assignment encourages students to explore a philosophical approach or artistic movement by embodying its principles and reflecting on its influence through lived experience.

This assignment focuses on metacognitive reflection and the uniquely human ability to connect theory to practical, ethical, and personal applications.

Instructions

Lived Experience Format

1. Select a philosophical approach or artistic movement related to happiness and its cultural influence.
2. Within reasonable, lawful, and safe conditions, live the chosen philosophy or artistic movement for a day, as described by its author or practitioners.
3. Document your experience in a 3-page report or 10-minute film documentary:
   • Describe the characteristics, history, and meaning of the philosophy or movement.
   • Explain the practical steps you took to embody the philosophy or movement.
   • Reflect on the significance of this experience in your life and its broader cultural relevance.
4. Follow ethical and safety guidelines during the assignment:
   • Avoid any actions that could harm yourself or others.
   • Seek instructor guidance for clarity on ethical boundaries.

Grading Criteria

• Depth and accuracy of historical and cultural analysis (40%).
• Clarity and authenticity in documenting the lived experience (30%).
• Depth of reflection on personal and cultural significance (20%).
• Adherence to ethical and safety guidelines (10%).
